How To Succeed With Piano Lessons
Want to become a piano teacher? Want to succeed in music? No problem. All you need is a little skill and patience. Especially patience. This is very important for teaching. Some people want to impose their standards on others. This will lead to frustration. Focus on beginning students. There are a hundred beginners for every advanced student. Realize that people are the key. Word of mouth rules. You want to provide good instruction and people must like you. Don't charge too little or too much. If you charge $5/half hour, people will think you're not serious or not very good. If you start at $50/half hour, you may never get off the ground. As you gain experience, your rates may naturally go up. Base your rates on your demand, not what everybody else charges. If you want 20 students at $40 each, build up to 25 at a lower rate, then slowly raise your rates. If you want to charge top dollar, you need to be good. Good means very personable and very knowledgeable. People will test you. Make sure you know all the answers. This takes time. The best way to learn is to teach. Because no one wants to look dumb, you will find the answers. I learned more about piano by teaching than I did in 11 years of lessons.
